had dinner at cafe grattitude in the mission the other night since i was feeling vegan food. raw vegan food at that. although i like the eats at this place, i can only handle it in bi-annual doses. this place is waaaay too hokey and gimmicky. all their dishes have names that begin with ‘i am…’ and end with something uplifting- like ‘i am awakening’, ‘i am cherished’, etc. gross. and the worst part is that when they bring you your food, they repeat back your order and tell you shit like ‘you are cherished’ or some bullshit like that. the employees that work here are…strange. (warning: broad generalization about to be made…) they’re all kind of vacant, a little too happy, and uber crunchy. but hey, such is life in a raw vegan food place serving up self-esteem and positivity. whatever. i’m down with their warm grain bowls and their desserts. this is why i come back. the drinks are good too, but certainly not worth the price of an entree. i mean, $7 for a smoothie? ? a bit much, i think..
anyhow, had the sushi bowl with quinoa and chip ordered the same, but with bhutanese red rice. followed it up with key lime pie, which was pretty stellar. not too sweet and the macadamia nut crust was a really good alternative to a graham cracker crust.
so i’m off on a roadtrip next week, which i’m super stoked about. going to the madonna inn (finally!) and then back up to monterey. should be a nice little vacay and a fucking rad foodventure.
