hmm, where do i start? well, i guess i should first explain why i went across the country to begin with. simple, really. jesse racked up way too many parking tickets and got a boot on his car. miraculously, the boot somehow ended “falling off”. maybe someone was going around prying off boots, i don’t know. all i know is that one day it was there and the next day it wasn’t. since his car was free from bondage, he decided to get rid of it by driving it to his parents’ house in boston. totally makes sense, right? okay, hence the road trip.
it took five days to get to boston and the drive through middle-america was pretty awesome. so many open expanses, so many hot tubs. what’s up with middle america and its love of whirlpool tubs in every hotel room? we stayed in four places and three had jacuzzis in-unit. after the second, we were pretty much burned out. i mean there’s only so much champagne one can guzzle after 10 hours of driving in darkness. oh yeah, travelling in the winter – it sucks. it’s like perpetually dark.
i didn’t eat much good food on the road. lots of greasy spoons and shitty snacks. to compensate, we took a detour to chicago and ate dinner at irazu one night. i ordered the casado because i remember that’s what sarah had the last time we were there. the casado is thin rib-eye steak served with rice, black beans, plantains, with an egg over-easy. holy shit, it was so good. and the cornmeal shake i had with it was ridiculous. jesse had the potato rolled tacos. delicious, but san diego does them better.
i’ll tell you more about my trip later and post more pics. these snaps will have to do for now. oh, and if i could pick a song to go along with these pics, it would have to be the postmarks’ cover of 7-11. i’d link it, but again, too lazy.
