starbelly

made it to starbelly a few weeks back for a casual, yet lovely, dinner. this place is part of the beretta family, and in my opinion, waaaay better with lots more yummy offerings. started with the rancho gordo heirloom bean puree and the butter lettuce salad (w/roasted oregon hazelnuts, mission figs and pt reyes blue cheese vinaigrette), followed by the guanciale (pig cheek) pizza with wild nettles and parmesan. Everything tasted really bright and fresh and uncomplicated. you know how things made simply just taste good? yeah, it was like that.

and the most amazing thing of all? nothing on the menu is over $16. i believe our meal was under $30, which is practically unheard of in SF.  the only downside was that service was a tad disorganized. i gave them a pass, though, since they’ve just opened and are still getting their shit together. oh, and i think the wait can be a bitch as well, but we went at 6:30 and didn’t have a problem.
