i’ve been feeling melancholy as of late and having all these emo thoughts about how hard my life is. and then as i was selecting pictures for this post, i realized that i must be fucking high because my life is probably the exact opposite of difficult. . jesus, i’ve become such a whiny priss. next time i start complaing about how my shoulders hurt because my bag is so heavy, someone please tell me to shut the fuck up.
anyways, this is all the shit i did this past week that made me get just how not hard my life actually is. so monday and tuesday have been excluded because those were “me days” where i had subway for dinner, watched golden girls in my room, and worked on projects.
wed: i met up with susan for dinner at sushi zone, my favorite sushi restaurant in the city. the wait is ridiculously long if you don’t get there right when the joint opens at 5, but it’s so worth it. the fish is unbelievably fresh and prices are dirt cheap. melt-in-your-mouth sashimi for $6? unheard of.

thurs: i hadn’t seen jesse all week, so the plan had been to meet up for drinks. mariah was free that night as well so we all ended up at ritespot for a few cocktails and then headed over to bruno’s to try the new southern food pop-up retaurant (brought to you by the broken record folks). oh my god, the brisket…so tender you could literally cut it with a fork. the gumbo was flavorful and a steal at $10. also devoured were the blt salad and fried green tomatoes. in one word – delicious. so good, in fact, i’m going back tomorrow with the meat club.

fri: i had pho with sarah and then we met up with jesse at needles and pens to see the new nikki mcclure show. all i can say is “wow”. the detail in these works is amazing and best appreciated up close since each piece is made from a single sheet of paper and cutout with exacto knife.
(i stole the pic below from n&p since i didn’t really take any snaps that night)

sat: what a full day i had! i got up early for a letterpress class at the ferney studios and then had coffee and sweets with chris. afterwards i went to debbie’s house for my first attempt at jam making - a pear, chardonnay, vanilla jam. i was impressed with the flavor, but there was something not “jam-like” about it. i’m pretty sure i used too much pectin and not enough of everything else so the consitency was off – a little too solid. i was supposed to get14 8oz jars with one package of pectin, and i ended up only with 5 jars of jam…so yeah.
after my jam experiement, i biked my ass to the lower haight to meet up with sarah and phil. we had acme burgers (way too expensive, btw. why can’t they throw in some free fries for that price?) and karaoked the night away.

sun: picked up some free produce from the farmer’s market with the meat club gang (sans nevin) and then had a late thai/vietnamese brunch at three papayas inside of doc’s clock. if you haven’t been, i really suggest trying it out. entrees are $8 and really unique “foody” takes on traditional cuisine.
afterwards, i went to jesse’s house for our traditional sunday dinners. each week we try out new recipes and have a cooking “date night” of sorts. we had a greek theme last night and made lamb meatballs and swiss chard couscous.

these onions were poison to my eyes

tsatsiki dip that i made with dill and lemon from the free famer’s market produce.

tsatsiki dip facial.

after the facial, we watched up and had a good cry together.
